White Horse Close, Edinburgh
If you walk the length of the Royal Mile from Edinburgh Castle down towards the ancient Palace of Holyrood, you will come onto the Canongate at its eastern end. Off here, not far from the royal palace, is one of the most picturesque closes of Edinburgh's Old Town. The original White Horse Close was probably the site of the palace stables and is said to have been named after Mary, Queen of Scots’ favourite grey mount.
